FIVE Reasons Why You Should Go Travelling
The world as we know it is getting smaller. I mean that in terms of accessibility, in terms of seeing images of places thousands of miles away, lying in the palm of your hand via an app. Only a century ago, there was no way you would get from the UK to Spain in two hours, let alone Australia in twenty-four! It was rare to even leave your county, maybe even your town. Nowadays, many people we come into contact with have least one story to share regarding their trip abroad, here or there.
Anyway, it’s about you. Why should you travel? Here are my FIVE main reasons:
Discover Yourself:
Well, for a start, you will have an amazing time. Being around new and exciting people, full of energy and positivity; you will start to notice a change- scratch that, you will start to notice the “real you” emerge and integrate with others in the same boat as you. You may even find yourself in an actual boat or two along the way! But, no matter what, you will learn more about yourself than you ever thought was possible, both good and bad. Not only that, but you will more than likely develop a level of empathy for those around you, develop new habits and even understand how well you can budget, tolerate things, eat and sleep!
Educate Yourself:
The biggest difference that people notice when they have travelled extensively is their hunger to learn. The world holds so many secrets, so much priceless knowledge that will help shape the way you view it henceforth (holy crap, henceforth?! Bro…). New passions and hobbies will enter your everyday life, and that new skill you perfected, or that language you practised will show how far you have come. You will also realise just how many UNESCO World Heritage Sites there are in the world!
Meet your Future Best Friends:
This is always the most surprising thing. Even if you go travelling with someone, you will undoubtedly bond with other on your journey. They will possibly tag along further than initially planned, or you with them, and you will build an unbreakable bond built on the foundations of the concept of travel. An interconnection that wasn’t interrupted by the hustle and bustle of the rat race back at home. But people in places that will produce new and incredible memories with you.
Meet Other Cultures:
No matter what, go travelling with an open mind. You will quickly find that people a few hours from your home country live completely differently to what you're used to. They go about their daily lives in ways you thought were unimaginable, with smiles you didn’t think were possible. You will interact with locals and be immersed in foreign tradition, religion and social division without realising. Before you know it, you will have developed a "new sight", one that sees past the end of your nose and extends to the beauty that is diversity.
Make New Opportunities:
Many travellers just don’t go home when they’re supposed to. Once abroad and roaming around wonderful new lands, you will come across new and amazing prospects that you would otherwise have missed out on back at home. The chance to teach in a school, the opportunity to work for a travel company, to volunteer at an animal conservation camp; so, so much is out there waiting for you. At the end of the day, you want to be happy with where your life is heading, so go and explore, find what makes you happy, and that positivity will hopefully reciprocate into something worth committing to.
